With so much Oscar buzz dedicated to the breakout performance by Mo'nique in "Precious" we want to spend a little time analyzing this movie as well as the new DVD release and its collection of special features.
Next we'll revisit a Geek-favorite with the Satellite of Love crew in the 17th volume of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" to hit DVD. This one includes some fun bonus features like min-posters, and it marks the fan-awaited release of their first Comedy Central episode: "The Crawling Eye." We've also got the controversial comedy "Brief Interviews With Hideous Men" marking the directorial debut of "The Office's" John Krasinski. Speaking of controversey, Michael Moore takes on the entire modern system of econmics with "Capitalism: A Love Story," and we'll take on his point-of-view to see if it holds water as a film. Release the Kraken! Tonight on DVD Geeks, we'll look at two beloved '80s fantasy/adventure classics. First, Ray Harryhausen's final films as visual effects supervisor is a stop-motion feast for the eyes - "Clash of the Titans." Don't confuse this with the 2010 CGI remake - we're talking about a pre-"L.A. Law" Harry Hamlin as Perseus battling the most despicable creatures of the ancient world.
Following that, we'll take a more gentle journey with "The Neverending Story" - a film by Wolgang Petersen that transports a little boy into a fantastical world. We'll also look at a quirky Paul Giamatti film called "Cold Souls" in which Giamatti plays himself only with the handicap of having his soul removed in order to tackle a challenging stage role. Finally, we'll geek out over the latest Hayao Miyazaki creation "Ponyo" which is getting the delixe release treatment from Disney along with re-releases this week of some of his previous titles. All that plus the week's honorable mentions, "Geek Picks" and more - LIVE at 7pm Central only on Fearless Radio ! |

He's superfly, he's superbad - he's "Black Dynamite" and he's here to make the streets safe from the nefarious plots of THE MAN. Monday night on DVD Geeks we'll look at a clever send-up of the blaxploitation genre that looks like it could have been lost to the ages since 1974.
Next up, we'll serve up a small slice-of-life with Audrey Tatou's performance as fashion icon Coco Chanel in a film that explores her early love-life and budding career. "Coco Before Chanel" is a lush period piece set in turn-of-the-century France that present a woman who is far ahead of her time. Finally, we'll look at Chris Rock's raucous documentary that attempts to find that truly is "Good Hair" and we'll catch up on a review of the relationship comedy "Couple's Retreat."
