DVD Geeks recap - September 7
Written by Administrator

GladiatorComing up on the next DVD Geeks!

Tom and John take a look at the latest DVD releases including the special edition of "Gladiator" on BluRay as part of the Paramount "Sapphire Series." It's full of luscious HD imagery, got some great new features, and it isn't the first time Tom has been so excited to watch a movie with men in short skirts.

Next, we'll look at the new series by comic favrotie and "Daily Show" contributor Demetri Martin. "Important Things with Demetri Martin" is part stand-up, part sketch comedy, part animation, part music all delivered with slacker charm.

Finally, Tom and John are giddy as schoolgirls about the latest Doctor Who release "The Next Doctor." What's that? Did we fool you into thinking we got our hands on a hot copy of Matt Smith's premiere as the perennial Time Lord? Nope, this is one of David Tennant's special episodes that will have to satisfy his legions of fans before he makes his final goodbye as the Doctor. Still, it's a delightful story full of Christmas spirit and sociopathic cyborgs - and the special feature on this DVD is a must see.

We'll wrap it all up with a quick peek at Universal's "Parks and Recreation" season 1 and other honorable mentions plus our weekly Geek Picks and much more!

Join us LIVE at 7pm only on Fearless Radio !

Adventureland

First, we've got the much lauded "Adventureland" about teens coming-of-age while workin in a second-rate amusement park in Pittsburgh in the 1980s. Does the movie live up to the soundtrack?

Next up, we'll look at the criminally overlooked "Sunshine Cleaners" about a pair of sisters who take on the grisly task of post-mortem clean-up.

Finally, it wouldn't be DVD Geeks without our own Televixen covering the best of TV on DVD. This week, we are pleased to present "Scrubs" season 8 and the provocative "Californication" season 2.

All that, plus special noteworthy releases "I Love You, Man" and the 25th Anniversary of "The Last Starfighter," Geek Picks "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Graduate" and our weekly honorable-mentions and much more!

DVD Geeks recap - August 3

DelgoWith two powerhouse stars like Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx, "The Soloist" must be a singular sensation of a movie, right? We'll weigh in on this "inspired-by-a-true-story" tale of a homeless street musician who is discovered by an LA Times reporter.

Next up, we'll tackle what is one of the most infamous box-office flops of all time, the much-maligned "Delgo," to see if this CGI-animated fantasy can get past its bad PR and survive on its own merits as a DVD.

Speaking of fantasy - suppose for a moment that a vision from God inspired you to create a movie studio and then produce a hundred-million-dollar epic billed as "Star Wars" meets "The Ten Commandments." We'll see the completely captivating journey of one Pentacostal preacher who had never seen a movie before his 40th birthday on his way to create the greatest film ever made. Don't miss our discussion of "Audience of One."

Few actors could carry a sword-and-sandals epic the way Kirk Douglas could, and w've got his 1955 outing as the brash, swashbuckling "Ulysses." After that, we'll delve into the very dark sensibility of John Cassavetes with "Husbands."

As always, we round out the show with our Geek Picks, news and much more. Listen to the podcast (link on the right-hand column) or subscribe to us at iTunes !

No show next week - we'll partying with the rest of the geek world in Vegas!
