Televixen is taken with "Taken"
Written by Mary

Liam NeesonWhen "Taken" was in theatres I hardly batted a fake eyelash. Maybe the marketing was off or I was just completely oblivious, but somehow I missed the awesomeness that this DVD wields in the form of a furious Liam Neeson punch. Until now that is…

Let me start off by laying out the premise: Liam Neeson’s character, Bryan, is estranged from his daughter but is trying to make amends around the time of her 17th birthday.

DVD Geeks recap - June 1
Written by Administrator

Mega Shark versus Giant OctopusWe may have received what is the very best worst movie in the world - brace yourself for the awesome entertainment that is "Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus!"

How can we possibly follow that? Well, we have Daniel Criag still as a gun-carrying badass; this time not as James Bond but rather as Tuvia Bielski, the resistance leader who fought off Nazis and protected Jewish refugees during WWII in Edward Zwick's "Defiance." A powerhouse of a different sort is next with the critically acclaimed "Revolutionary Road" starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Finally, we have the DVD of the internet sensation "Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog" with what will surely be one of the great special features of all time, "Commentary: The Musical!"

All that plus geek picks "High Fidelity" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space." Missed it live? Be sure you check out the podcast - show us some love on iTunes!

DVD Geeks - recap May 18

Paul BlartThanks to everyone who entered our giveaway of "Star Trek" Remastered: Season 1 on Blu-Ray with our friends over at Trekcast.com . It's only the coolest Star Trek podcast in the galaxy, so check them out! We'll be announcing the winners of the FOUR sets we're giving away - good job on the trivia questions, listeners!

On this show, we see if there is redeeming value in the Happy Madison production of Kevin James' "Paul Blart: Mall Cop."

We also dig deep into the controversial - and historically detailed - WWII thriller "Valkyrie" from Tom Cruise and director Bryan Singer.

And it wouldn't be DVD Geeks without our own Televixen taking on some TV for your edification. In her sights this week is the HBO vampire series "True Blood."

We'll have resident Otaku Ryan back with another installment of "Orient express" plus geek picks "Let the Right One In" and "The Cat's Meow" right off the shelves of our personal collections and all the witty banter you can stand.
